From Small Roots to Community Growth
A Legacy of Service
Tracy Disposal Company was founded in 1950 by Carl Repetto, Dave Rosaia, and Ben Roberts to serve the then-small City of Tracy, home to around 9,600 residents. Just five years later, the company expanded its services to include leaf and yard waste collection. Over the next three decades, Tracy Disposal grew alongside the community, embracing new waste management technologies to better serve the city’s evolving needs.
In 1986, Carl’s son Mike Repetto joined the business after Ben Roberts retired, with Curt Repetto becoming a partner soon after. This generational transition laid the foundation for continued growth and innovation in waste services.
Adapting to Change
Sustainable Innovation
The passage of California Assembly Bill 939 in 1989 set ambitious landfill reduction goals—25% by 1995 and 50% by 2000. Tracy Disposal responded swiftly, launching a variety of recycling programs for materials such as newspaper, cardboard, scrap metal, green waste, and construction debris.
Key milestones followed: the launch of the curbside “blue box” recycling program in 1991, an automated yard waste collection system in 1995, and the opening of the Tracy Material Recovery and Transfer Facility. By 2003, with Tracy’s population exceeding 80,000, recycling efforts were streamlined into a fully automated commingled system.
Throughout the past 60+ years, Tracy Disposal has remained committed not only to sustainability but also to community engagement, supporting local non-profits, schools, and service programs across the city.
